Fibromyalgia (FM) is a complex chronic pain illness affecting an estimated 10 million Americans and approximately 5% of the world’s population. Although FM is more common in women, it strikes men, women and children of all ages and ethnic backgrounds. At best, FM disrupts normal lifestyle and limits activity; at worst, it can be severely debilitating, even interfering with routine self-care tasks. Fibromyalgia is recognized by the American Medical Association, the National Institutes of Health, and the American College of Rheumatology.
